  • Boxee beta coming soon

Have you seen Boxee yet?  You can here and here’s why it’s important.  I have been using the alpha product, which is pretty cool and stable and the company is releasing the beta version next week with the goal of going GA at the CES show in January.

Ok, here’s why I think it’s cool.  Boxee is — I think — a new category that can be called social TV viewing.  With Boxee you can watch TV streams on your computer or a computer hooked up to your big screen TV.  I have Apple TV which is pretty cool stuff for starters and there is a hack to get Boxee onto your Apple TV, but you should visit the site for more details.

With Boxee you have one application that enables you to watch feeds from Hulu, Flickr, the networks, YouTube, MLB and just about any other place you can think of.  More importantly, the same is true for music and things like your personal pictures that are stored on your network or hard drive.  Long story short — digital media anywhere provided to your computing device and TV.

The social aspect is very cool too.  You and your friends can review and rate the programming or even watch the same programs and comment on them together.  Reviews from all sorts of places and people are available on-line.

But it isn’t just the programming you would expect to find that’s interesting, it’s what you never thought you’d see.  For example, I have been watching a video of a course in game theory produced at Yale.  Even if the Nash Equilibrium is not your cup of tea, you have to be amazed at the depth of programming.

Enough of this.  You can follow the links and find out more or you can use this link to sign up for the beta.  This is going to be cool.
