  • Off to Denver and Sage Summit 2008

If you are looking for me this week, call my cell 617-901-2072.  I am attending the Sage Summit 2008, a conference of Sage executives and partners.  This year should be very interesting.  The summit will be held in Denver, a mere 5000+ feet above sea level, an elevation where I might begin gulping air if stressed, though typically this phenomenon happens further west for me.

Sage is the primary company for front and back office automation in the SMB space around the world. There are of course other contenders including Oracle, SAP, Microsoft and NetSuite to name some obvious candidates. Sage has managed to do very well over the years by sticking to its knitting and catering to its reseller partners.  That requires a slightly different out look than most vendors–who sell primarily enterprise solutions–have exhibited.  Sage might not be the first to market with some innovation, for example they have been carefully dipping a toe into the social media market, but they tend to act when they are sure their customers are ready for a next step.  So, for example, that toe dipping has not resulted in major products yet, but Sage has one of the more successful community sites for a software vendor David van Toor’s blog.

At any rate, it will be an interesting visit to Denver and I expect to have a few things to write about later.
